The Farmacy effect - Linking Healthy People, Food and Farms

  • Garfield Community Centre Beswick Street Garfield, VIC Australia (map)

We are very excited to announce that World Renowned speakers Prof. Felice Jacka and Stacey Curcio will be speaking in Garfield on Monday 27th October on the 'Farmacy Effect' - the links between healthy people, food and farming practices.

Felice Jacka OAM

Felice Jacka OAM is a Deakin Distinguished Professor and is internationally recognised for her research establishing diet and nutrition as of importance to common mental disorders. These include the first studies to document a role for diet in adolescent depression, and the first trial to show that dietary improvement can address depression. She has a particular interest in the human microbiome (gut, oral, skin) and how it contributes to mental health.

Felice will talk about the links between diet and mental health, and how food systems, regenerative farming, soil microbiology, relate to mental and brain health.

Felice also authored the book 'There's a Zoo in your Poo!' It needs a Zookeeper - And that Keeper is YOU! Did you know that trillions of tiny bugs live in and on all of us? But which are the good bugs and which are the bad? What should we eat to keep our good bugs happy and our body strong? Does the way we farm influence the quality of the food we eat?

Stacie Curcio

Stacey Curcio was imprinted from a young age with the principles of sustainable ecological agriculture, learning about dung beetles, ecosystem health and holistic thinking through her families work with farmers. This, along with a deep curiosity of the human body, led Stacey to pursue a career in holistic health. She holds a Bachelor of Health Science majoring in Naturopathy and a Masters of Human Nutrition.

Stacey will talk about the ‘Farmacy’ Effect – highlighting the links between farming practices, soil health, the importance of nutrient dense food and human health outcomes. Her passion is to break down the silos between agriculture and health.

Stacey runs Cultivating Wellness', a business dedicated to bridging the gap between modern nutritional science and traditional practices, making complex health information accessible and actionable for everyone, regardless of their location.

Both Felice & Stacey are renowned speakers, and were crowd favorites at the inaugural 'Grounded Australia - Farming Better' conference in Tasmania, and Vic No-till conferences.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn from world recognised speakers, and join us at the Garfield Community Centre Hall for a fantastic day.

There will be local farmers attending showcasing healthy local produce, and a chef inspired lunch will showcase some of the amazing local produce in our region.
